About the Designer:
POUL M. VOLTHER
Poul Volther was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on January 2, 1923, and died on January 23, 2001.
He was a Danish furniture designer and architect pioneer in Scandinavian functionalism, although inspired by the rationalist design purpose-driven mindset of the Bauhaus movement and best known for his iconic "Corona chair." He succeeded Børge Mogensen as Artistic Director of FDB Møbler by 1950, exploring his particular approach to design through an unusual sense of detail and appreciation of material properties and bringing to life stylized furniture with a subtle yet striking aesthetic.
